Party Ideas

A concession stand lends a feeling of authenticity to the event. It can also create a great job for a sibling helper. To create the stand, place a table in a doorway, cover the table with a disposable plastic tablecloth, then use pushpins to hang another tablecloth from the top and sides of the doorway. We created a window by cutting out a rectangle. Decorate the stand with foam pennants and used acrylic paint to add the word "Concession" (some colors will need 2 coats).
- Popcorn in keepsake megaphone cups
- To create a popcorn holder, cover a large shoe box with decorative paper and cut holes in the top
- Stacked mini sandwiches skewered with flag picks made from construction paper
- Pom-pom and Megaphone Snack Mix made from Bugles and cheese balls
- Pizza slices
- Bottled water
- Half-size sodas
- Megaphone Cake

Make a megaphone cake in
your favorite colors!
This sporty dessert is made from a standard-size cake that's cut into a few simple shapes. It's sure to score megapoints with everyone at the party.
What You'll Need:
- 9" by 13" cake, refrigerated overnight
- 24" by 14" piece of 1/8" thick cardboard
- White parchment paper(enough to cover the board)
- Clear tape
- 16 oz. tub of white frosting
- Yellow food coloring
- Large doughnut
- Fruit leather (we used Fruit Roll-Ups Blastin' Berry Hot Colors in Blazin' Blue)
- 4 1/4 oz. tube of blue decorators' icing
- M&M's
Megaphone Cake Directions:
- Spread a sheet of parchment paper over the cardboard, securing it in back with clear tape.
- Cut the cake and arrange it on the board as shown. Tint the frosting with the yellow food coloring, then frost the cake yellow.
- Next, cut a large doughnut in half and frost it yellow. Place the doughnut handle at the bottom of the megaphone, about 2 inches from the narrow end, and secure it with frosting.
- Use a toothpick to draw the outline of the number (about 4 1/2 inches tall and 3 inches across) onto the plastic backing of the fruit leather, then cut out the number shape. Cut 2 fruit leather stripes about 3/4 inch wide and place them on the cake along with the number.
- With blue decorators' icing, outline the number and the edges of the cake. Squeeze icing onto the handle and spread it to cover the top of the handle. Pipe a birthday message onto the parchment paper. Secure M&M's to the board with tiny dabs of icing so they appear to be bursting out of the megaphone along with the happy-birthday cheer.
Show your school or team spirit by using a matching color scheme. Use standard decorations; streamers, balloons, confetti etc. Lynn O'Brien Cheer and Dance Birthday Party Logo is Fuchsia, yellow and black. Create a table centerpiece, using a set of cheerleading pom-poms and a weighted balloon bouquet.

Attach team pennants, letterman's jackets, athletic shirts etc., to the walls and windows. For accents... if you daughter is currently a cheerleader for football or basketball team, add appropriate decorations. Keep hygiene in mind, by purchasing inexpensive individual hairbrushes for each guest, from your local dollar store.
Birthday Posters
While the girls are waiting for their makeover, they can fashion a special poster for the birthday girl. Provide a flat surface, large sheet of poster board with the birthday girl's name already written, stickers, markers and / or gel pens. Encourage them to get creative by writing special birthday cheer.
